Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh has craved for increased budgetary allotment to support the country’s justice system. Speaking Monday, August 12, 2024, at the official opening of the 14th Judicial Complex in Cestos City, River Cess County, Justice Yuoh said for decades, the Executive and Legislature continued to establish magisterial courts without allocating funding for magistrates and other court staff. “We have Legislature and Executive that have the full responsibility of establishing magisterial courts and magisterial districts respectively but continue to establish magisterial courts without putting funds in the budget for magistrates and even the building of the court complex first and foremost,” she explained. The Chief Justice said it’s the constitutional responsibility of both branches of government to allocate funding’s aimed at fast-tracking dispensation of justice nationwide. Meanwhile, Justice Yuoh has disclosed a five-year strategic plan seeking to align the workings of the judiciary with the government ARREST agenda. At the same time, the Chief Justice described the 14th Judicial Complex as a testament to the Supreme Court’s vision of expanding judicial infrastructure across the country. She emphasized that the move by the Judiciary branch of the Liberian Government is aimed at enhancing access to Justice and improving judicial service delivery for citizens across the country. According to her, establishing the 14th Judicial Complex in River Cess County is also geared towards bringing dignity to the judiciary branch of government and at the same time curtail some long-standing challenges. She reaffirmed the Judiciary Branch’s commitment to providing justice to all Liberians and upholding the rule of law in keeping with the constitution.
