Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned in Kakata, Margibi County, have confirmed the discovery of human skeletal in the lower part of the county. The discovery of the suspected human remains subsequently sparked an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the county police detachment, officers responded to a report on Saturday, February 21, 2026, about a suspicious black plastic bag found at Division-15 in Firestone; a nearby rubber plantation.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered suspected “scattered human skeletal along with several leftover pieces of clothes.
“The scene had unfortunately been contaminated by a large crowd prior to the arrival of our officers,” the LNP stated.
They noted that “this development may pose challenges to aspects of the investigation.”
Family members, residents who earlier trooped at the scene identified the remains as that of Geraldine Joseph, a woman reported missing in October, 2025.
To formally ascertain the nature of the remains, a 15-member coronary jury was constituted in keeping with legal procedures. The jury confirmed that the remains were “human bones.”
Police say the skeletal remains have since been turned over to the appropriate authorities for preservation, and further forensic examination as part of the ongoing probe.
“The matter remains under active investigation. Persons of interest will be invited for questioning as we work to establish the full facts surrounding this case,” the LNP assured.
Authorities have meanwhile, urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to bring clarity and possible closure to the troubling discovery. Source: Ablee-jay TV
