Residents and school administrators in Grand Kru County have expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Education Minister and partners for the ongoing construction of a modern three senior high school facilities.

The ongoing construction of the facilities are taking place in three of the county’s eight educational districts. They are, Wedabo Gbanken, Fenito of Dorbor and Nifu of Jloh.

The project, according to our correspondent, is part of government’s Arrest Agenda Decentralization Programs on Education.”  The program emphasizes equitable access to quality education across the country. Initially, the project was awarded to a different contractor, but the construction firm abandoned the work during the regime of former President George Weah (2018/2023). At that point, the Ministry of Education was left with no choice, but to terminate their contract when the new administration took over.

International Consolidated Contractors (ICC); a reputable construction company, won the contract this year (2025) to implement the project. This follow the recent nationwide tour of the Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Marley Jallah.

Meanwhile, during a recent visit to one of the construction sites on Monday, June 9, Jefferson Tarbor, and Augustine Tarh, both residents of Wedabo Gbanken, celebrated the progress that has been made on the facility.

They therefore expressed appreciation for the partnership that transformed the project.

“The construction of these senior high facilities represents a significant step forward for our children’s education,” said Augustine Tarh, a local school administrator.

“For years, our students have faced challenges in accessing quality education. With these new schools, we are not only providing them with better facilities, but inspiring them to pursue their academic goals with renewed hopes.” Both Tarbor and Tarh have voiced their continued support for Pres. Boakai, highlighting his dedication to improve education across the country.

The two men believed that the new schools will empower the school-going kids in the local communities, providing them with the necessary tools to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.  “The investment in education is an investment in our future,” said Tarbor, a Youth leader, adding: “We are grateful to Pres. Boakai and the Ministry of Education for prioritizing our communities and recognizing the importance of education as a cornerstone of development.”

Meanwhile, the ongoing construction stands as an evidence to the collaborative efforts of Pres. Boakai, the Education Ministry, partners, and the local communities in advancing education in the country.
