In G/Kru County:

Schools Struggle Poor Conditions

The Principal of Suehn Jlaklokan Elementary School, Matthew Blanyon, has spoken about the worsening infrastructure conditions of the school.

Blanyon warned that the dilapidated conditions have undermined efforts to deliver quality education to students.

Blanyon said, the school has grappled with overcrowded classrooms, and insufficient classroom space; damaged roofs and doors, missing windows as well as the lack of a functional hand pump to provide safe drinking water for students and staff.

He said, the conditions continue to create an inconducive learning environment, making it difficult for teachers to effectively carry out their duties while exposing students to unnecessary hardships during school hours.

Mr. Blanyon disclosed how he has repeatedly appealed to community leaders and relevant authorities, but have yielded little response, leaving the school to operate under challenging circumstances.

He has therefore called on the Ministry of Education, non-governmental organizations, development partners, and philanthropists to urgently rehabilitate the facilities.

He stressed the need to invest in the improvement of the school to not only enhance learning outcomes, but to provide a safer and more comfortable environment for children in the community.

“Education is the foundation of development, but our students cannot achieve their full potential in these conditions.”

Blanyon expressed the hope that stakeholders will respond to the school’s urgent needs. His appeal highlights the challenges facing some rural schools in Grand Kru County, where inadequate infrastructure continues to impact access to quality education.
