The hullabaloo on the 285 pieces of yellow-machines destined for the country will soon be something in history, a dispatch has said.
As such, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung on Monday, June 16, visited the headquarters of Chinese equipment manufacturer (SANY) in Changsha inspecting a shipment of the 285 earth-moving machinery destined for Liberia.
The visit, according to a dispatch, marks a great step in the country’s efforts to strengthen its national infrastructure under the government’s ARREST Agenda. The Rescue Agenda prioritizes development in agriculture, roads, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism.
During the tour, VP Koung reviewed a range of heavy-duty construction equipment, including graders, excavators and bulldozers that will be deployed and maintained across all 15 counties.
The machinery is intended to enhance road construction and maintenance, directly addressing the country’s critical infrastructure challenges.
“This partnership allows the country to tap into China’s advanced construction technology to modernize our infrastructure sector,” said VP Koung.
The initiative, the dispatch said, signals deepening cooperation between China and Liberia, particularly in the areas of trade and development.
According to Koung, the collaboration with SANY will support not only the delivery of machinery, but also technical training, knowledge transfer, and the establishment of maintenance hubs throughout the country.
Originally, the deal for 285 pieces of equipment was valued at approximately US$79 million.
However, following public concerns and pressure for greater transparency, the government successfully renegotiated the terms, bringing the cost down to no more than US$22 million to be paid over a three-year period.
Mr. Koung’s tour reflects the country’s forward-looking strategy to address its infrastructure challenges by pursuing strategic global partnerships and ensuring value-driven investments.
“This equipment will revolutionize the country’s road infrastructure, drive economic development, and significantly enhance the quality of life for our citizens,” Koung added. Source: Ayeason Yeeba /LNTV
