“I Want Boakai To Succeed

. . . Even if it destroys my chances”

“I want Boakai to succeed even if his success story destroys my 2029 presidential chances; if it makes it harder for me to win future elections . . .,”

–ANC’s Alex Cummings told his audience in a podcast

Alexander Benedict Cummings (ABC), recently shocked many of government’s critics and his supporters, when he promised not to contest against President Joseph Nyuma Boakai at the expected 2029 polls.

Hear Cummings: “I will be happy if Pres. Boakai succeeds in leading the country with progress marks by development programs.”

He is the political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC).

He says: “I want Boakai to succeed even if his success story destroys my 2029 presidential chances; if it makes it harder for me to win future elections.”

Cummings comment was contained in his recent address to wider audience on the Kear Podcast.

He added: “I am happy with Pres. Boakai’s successful regime, and therefore, makes it more difficult for us to defeat him; that’s good for the country. If it makes it harder for me to get the job, that’s still good.”

He suggested that national progress should come before personal ambition.

Cummings underscored the importance of good governance for all Liberians.

He meanwhile, called on politicians to focus on ideas and solutions rather than personal rivalry.

Observers say, his remark show a rare willingness to put the country first, even if it is at the cost of political gain.
