Bong County Representative Robert Womba, has strongly dismissed allegations that he and handful of his colleagues from the Bong County Legislative Caucus deliberately boycotted President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, recent visit to the county.
Womba is also Chairs the Unity Party Legislative Caucus at the 55th Legislature.
His denial followed claims and counterclaims over his absence at program marking the President’s Bong County visit.
Rep. Womba has responded to a social media post by Voice of Liberia, which claimed that his absence from the President’s engagement with traditional chiefs and tribal governors held in Gbarnga, stemmed from a strained relationship with Senator Prince K. Moye.
Womba further described the report as “false, malicious, and a calculated attempt to sow division” in the county legislative caucus.
He further clarified that his absence from the President’s meeting was solely due to his travelled scheduled, which coincided with the President’s visit.
Rep. Womba: “I remain a proud Unity Party lawmaker, a chairman emeritus, who has served Bong County for more than a decade, clarifying that under no circumstance, would i boycott the President’s visit, especially when significant development projects are currently underway in my district.”
Womba cited several major initiatives being undertaken in Zota, Panta, and other parts of the district, including the ongoing construction of a major diagnostic center in Gbalatuah; expected to serve multiple districts and strengthen healthcare delivery in the county; the construction of the long-awaited Four River Bridge.
The bridge is to connect Zota and Panta, and the continued development of farm-to-market roads aimed at boosting commercial activity, and improve access to rural communities.
“And with these projects, it is a clear demonstrations of Pres. Boakai’s commitment to the people of Bong County. I will continue to remain fully supportive of the President’s agenda.”
He also addressed rumors of internal tension within the County Caucus, and allegations of “bad leadership” attributed to Senator Prince Moye.
Womba said he and Sen. Moye maintain a cordial working relationship, while describing allegation of a rift within the County Legislative Caucus as unfounded, and only intended to divide and distract leaders from “serving our people.”
Rep. Womba also called on Moye to avoid giving weight to a “campaign aimed at weakening the caucus.
He also encouraged unity, and focus among all leaders of Bong County.
He called on all stakeholders of the county, including legislators to remain committed to unity, development, and the collective progress of the county.
