Authorities at the National Housing Authority (NHA) have announced the construction of 600 housing units in six of the 15 counties.
The project’s execution is expected to provide about 3000 “indirect jobs” to Liberians.
Madam Florence K. Geebae, Managing Director at NHA disclosed how the NHA Board Resolution has been passed for a construction company (LARIX) to commence the project.
Madam Geebae made the disclosure at a press conference on Tuesday, March 31,2026, in Monrovia.
She said, the bill of quantities, including designs and technical specifications are now concluded and forwarded to the Ministry of State (MoS), while other phases of the project, including procurement remain at a well-advanced level.
The construction of the housing units, Madam Geebae said, it will improve the living conditions of about 2,640; given household size of 4.4 people.
The project, she said, will provide about 3,000 “indirect jobs at the rate of five jobs per housing.”
“The housing condition of 2,640 people will improve given an average household size of 4.4 people. It will create 3,000 indirect jobs at the rate of five jobs per housing unit.”
Madam Geebae has meanwhile, revealed that Liberia needs 200,000 new dwelling units to reduce crowding, while 163,035 housing units are needed to keep up with the population growth.
While quoting a 2020 World Bank Appraisal Environmental and Social Review Summary, Madam Geebae said, 4,891 housing units are needed to replace old and damaged housing at 3 percent per annum, while 70 percent of the population lives in slums under devastating housing conditions. She added that a total of 512,000 urban dwellings are needed by 2030.
The NHA was established by an Act of the Legislature on April 25,1960. It is the principal government agency responsible to initiate, plan, develop, and regulate housing development programs.
