The House of Representatives has cited the ministers of Justice, Transport and State for Presidential Affairs regarding concerns over the 2026 National Budget provision.
Plenary took the decision on Thursday, March 12, during the 18th Day Sitting of the First Quarter of the Third Session of the 55th Legislature.
The decision followed a communication from Grand Bassa County District #5 Representative, Thomas Alexander Goshua, raising concerns about a section of the 2026 budget.
Rep. Goshua stated that the provision reaffirms the Ministry of Transport (MoT) as the sole collector of vehicle registration and driver’s license fees nationwide.
He noted that the same section mandates the MoT to enforce the vehicle and traffic law, a responsibility that may require restructuring.
“Mr. Speaker, I rise this concern because this issue has the propensity to embarrass us as a government. The most recent law, the 2026 national budget state that contingent of the US$1. 24 billion, the country needs to raise, US$13 million need to come from MoT and if the ministry is no longer hindering the enforcement of the vehicle and traffic registrations, then I think the 2026 budget law that was passed needs to be repeal,” Rep. Goshua.
Meanwhile, Goshua has requested the ministers to appear before the House to clarify the taskforce arrangement among ministries and agencies regarding enforcement.
