As part of effort to further resolve the impasse in the MCSSTA which accordingly resulted to a day of violence protest between students of the Monrovia Consolidated Schools System (MCSS) and the Liberia National Police on recently, the House of Representatives Committee on Education on Wednesday held a one- day dialogue to resolve the impasse.
Speaking during the day dialogue was Nimbia County District 2 Lawmaker and Chair on the Education Committee at the House of Representatives, Nyahn G. Flomo. He said the issue of protesting to find solutions was not in the right direction, noting that upon this backdrop, the committee decided to organize a meeting to bring all players on the table to discuss and in order to reach a conclusion through the signing of a resolution that could further prevent reoccurrence of another protest.
He also expressed deep regret over the recent students protest that later turned violence, stressing that it has the propensity to undermine the image of the country to the outside world.
Moreover, Rep. Flomo called on the students to be patient, stating that as Chair on Education, he is going to do everything possible to work along with stakeholders in the Executive to ensure that the plights are met for the betterment of the country educational sector.
Also at the meeting was the Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Marley Jallah, who accordingly reached out to the parties involved to find a way forward through the signing of a resolution to prevent reoccurrence of what has happened during the protest.
Speaking Wednesday at the Capitol Building following the one- day dialogue with parties involved , Minister Jallah said the dialogue was intended to discuss the way forward in resolving the matter.
She further revealed that the meeting was to know prompted the protest and how they can reach a conclusion .
Min. Jallah said issue of salaries which was the focus of the students protest, stating that the government has already started working on the matter.
She also expressed deep regret over the form and manner in which the students proceeded, stressing that the Ministry of Education is going to do everything possible to resolve the problem in order to further curtail reoccurrence.
Madam Jallah further called on the teachers and students across the country to do away with confrontation or protest to solve problem but should seeks dialogue as a way forward for the betterment of the country.
