A devastating incident occurred in Potupo Tejailiken, River Gee County, when a locally built stick house collapsed, leaving seven people injured.

The house, located about 10 kilometers from Fish Town, belonged to a homeowner (not named).

Construction of the stick-house started in 2021, but was stalled due to financial woes.

Community members rallied and completed it on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Shortly the house was completed, it suddenly collapsed and injured seven persons.

The victims were rushed to the Fish Town Government Referral Hospital.

The cause of the collapse has instilled worries among the locals mainly about building safety standards when constructing with sticks in the area.

The incident highlights the risks associated with inadequate construction practices.

According to reports, the house was being completed with community help when it suddenly collapsed.

Experts warn that Liberia’s vulnerability to extreme weather events, like heavy rains, increase the risk of building collapses.

In fact, River Gee County is classified as a county with a high river flood hazard level, making it prone to flooding and related disasters.

Government has previously warned property owners to inspect buildings for structural weaknesses, especially in flood-prone areas. With the rainy season ahead, residents are advised to be cautious and report any safety concerns.
