Public Works Minister, Lafayette Roland Giddings, has said the construction of two overpass bridges from ELWA junction to the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town will significantly reduce traffic.

Henceforth, Giddings said, government, has contemplated on plan to expand the Tubman Boulevard from two to three lanes tar.

Giddings statement comes in the wake of public concern about the overpass bridges designed, and how will they ease traffic congestion.

At the Ministry of Information regular press conference on Thursday, March 19, Mr. Giddings said the diagram of the overpass bridges are designed to give a proper outlook of the “soon-to-see overpasses.

He said due to the design of the bridges, government has taken into consideration of a plan to enlarge the Tubman Boulevard from two to three lanes.

“Currently, we are designing the billboard. Very soon you will see that blown out billboard to say exactly the prototype how that road will look.”

Mr. Giddings said, survey for the Tubman Boulevard three lanes will commence anytime soon, and that actual work may begin next year.

“Construction works on the Robert International Airport (RIA) road will resume shortly after the conclusion of the contractors’ audit, which is being done by the General Auditing Commission (GAC).”

Minister Giddings spoke of the need to audit the contractors before giving additional money to them.

“The project had been paused for a while. Since we took over as a government, we have not paid a dime to that project.”

He clarified that the action by government was necessary to have done a proper “check and balance” of the road construction.
