Gov’t Launches US$10.6M Energy Project In Lofa

Government has launched an energy project to provide 24 hours electricity to all parts of Lofa County.

The project, according to a release, includes building a 4.0 MW solar power plant with battery storage in Bakuma Town.

This, the release said, is part of the national goal to provide electricity to all Liberians by 2030.

Announced on July 21, the project will power towns like Voinjama, Foya, Kolahun, Bolahun, Massabolahun, and 20 other communities.

It will provide over 10,000 homes with electricity; reach about 50,000 people; use solar and diesel together to keep the power steady.

The project is funded by the World Bank and will take 12 months to complete. It replaces a previously planned hydro project that was cancelled due to cost and technical issues.
