Mr. Eric Wlea Giko, a senatorial aspirant for Maryland County in the 2029 General Elections, has secured a 150-kilowatt transformer to bring electricity to affected communities- Barriken, Wectecken, and Old Lady.
He made the proclamation at a press conference at his home office in Pleebo-Sodoken Statutory District on February 26, 2026.
According to the former senatorial aspirant, the move was in response to residents’ appeals to address the lack of electricity in these areas along the Pleebo-to-Harper Highway.
He emphasized that this initiative is separate from his political ambitions and is aimed at improving living conditions for Marylanders.
Giko said the transformer installation will be overseen by the Barriken Community to avoid political interference.
He also mentioned plans to build a palava hut and a clinic in Karluway District, fulfilling promises made during his 2023 campaign.
Giko has been involved in various development projects in Maryland County, supported by locals and Marylanders in the US.
” I’m also working on academic and skills training programs, to support institutions like LICOSESS Teachers Training College and Tubman University’,’ Giko noted.
Meanwhile, Residents of Barriken, Wectecken, and Old Lady Communities are counting days until their transformer installation is complete. After decades without reliable electricity, the promise of light is more than just a luxury – it’s a game-changer.
