Commerce Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh has reassured employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of proactive working following a threatening statement from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr, following treat of dismissals.

During her address to employees of the ministry at the program marking the women’s day celebrations, Minister Dagoseh stressed the importance of readiness and commitment to work as the administration moves into a new phase of governance.

“Minister Dagiseh urged employees to maintain a proactive attitude and to focus on their roles in advancing the ministry’s objectives, particularly in fostering economic growth and stability in Liberia. “The President has made it clear that he expects high performance and accountability from all public servants,” Dagoseh stated.

President Boakai has sternly warned officials at the Ministry of Commerce to perform, or else, will be dismissed. The President’s warning was reportedly directed at the Minister Madalene Ellen Dagoseh that government will not tolerate ‘subpar performance’ from institutions tasked with regulating the business sector.

At a cabinet meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2026, President Boakai underscored the importance of the Ministry’s responsibilities, particularly in addressing the concerns of business owners. He expressed frustration over ongoing complaints from the business community, highlighting the Ministry’s critical role in protecting local production and bolstering the economy.

“When Christmas comes, I hear people saying: we have chicken here for you. We don’t want chicken; we can make our own food,” Pres. Boakai remarked, underscoring the need to promote local production rather than relying heavily on imports.

“We must be ready for work and demonstrate our dedication to serving the people of Liberia.” The comments come in the wake of President Boakai’s remarks, where he indicated that underperforming employees could face dismissal as part of his administration’s efforts to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within government ministries.

Minister Dagoseh acknowledged the anxiety among staff but reiterated that the ministry is committed to providing the necessary support and resources to help employees succeed. “We are not just a team; we are a family. It is essential that we work together to navigate these challenges and emerge stronger,” she added.

The minister’s called for collaboration and readiness aligns with the broader goals of President Boakai’s administration, which has prioritized economic reforms and the revival of various sectors within the Liberian economy. As the country grapples with ongoing economic challenges, the ministry’s role in facilitating trade, commerce, and industry development is more crucial than ever.

As employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry brace themselves for the coming weeks, Dagoseh’s message of resilience and readiness may serve as a critical motivator for staff as they adapt to the evolving demands of their roles. The coming months will be pivotal for the ministry as it seeks to align itself with the new administration’s vision and objectives. In conclusion, Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh’s address reflects both the urgency of the situation and the need for unity within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. As Liberia embarks on a new chapter under President Boakai, the focus will remain on fostering a work environment that encourages productivity and accountability, while also ensuring that employees feel secure in their positions.
