The Gee Foundation school in Fish-Town, River Gee County, has received desks.

The supplies followed media report, which revealed that the school were sitting on tarpaulins, because of shortage.

The school, which has over 500 students, had been struggling with inadequate seating; a situation that often forced some pupils to sit on the floor or stand-up during lessons.

Madam Hellen Mansah, a K-2 teacher, said, the school administration took swift action; used limited resources and procured the desks.

“The situation was heart-breaking to see students sitting on the ground to learn; a situation which disturbed the parents,” Madam Mansah.

The school principal, T. Hne Giplay, admitted that the situation embarrassed the administration.

Giplay said, financial challenges delayed the intervention.

While progress has been made, the problem is not fully resolved, with some students still sitting on the ground floor.

”We were able to managed with our little resources to provide desks for students. And even now, the school budget is not balanced; something which will not even allow us to compensate our volunteer teachers for February and months ahead,” Mr. Giply.

He meanwhile, disclosed how authorities at the Ministry of Education had provided over 150 modern armchairs for Early Childhood Development sessions.

As the school continues to encounter challenges, parents and community members, have called for increased investment in educational infrastructure.

“We need sustainable and comprehensive support to address the shortage of classroom furniture and resources; improving basic learning conditions is essential to boosting student performance and ensure equal access to quality education.”

In spite of the situation, the school remains hopeful for continues advocacy that will lead to lasting solutions; guarantee that every child enjoys a dignified place to learn.
