“My resignation was based on a decision to continue my legal studies at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.”
In the wake of mounting criticisms over his recent appointment by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as an Associate Magistrate, the son of Chief Justice, His Honor, Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, has resigned his post.
In what is termed as bowing to pressures for the leadership of the National Trial Judges, and the public, Willeyon Y. Gbeisay tendered in his resignation to the president, thereby, ending the political controversies that have beclouded his appointment.
It can be recalled that in a recent statement, Justice Gbeisay threatened to resign his post, if there were any proven law against the appointment of his son as Associate Magistrate.
Meanwhile, Pres. Boakai on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, accepted young Gbeisay’s resignation.
According to a release, Boakai formally accepted the resignation of Associate Magistrate-designate, Willeyon Y. Gbeisay of the Paynesville Magisterial Court.
Pres. Boakai thanked Mr. Gbeisay and commended him for his “commitment to his personal, and professional development.”
Earlier in a communication addressed to Boakai, Mr. Gbeisay, expressed gratitude for his preferment, saying: “My resignation was based on a decision to continue my legal studies at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.”
He further explained that his decision was made in “good faith to avoid public misconceptions, and prevent any distractions from the ongoing reforms within the Judiciary.”
