Gbarnga ‘Shines’ Ahead Of Festive Season

The Jeff Dekegai Juaquellie Foundation, has successfully concluded its 2025 “Bong Shines Cleanup Campaign.”

The campaign, which was hosted in a remarkable display of community spirit,

 honored local communities in Gbarnga for their dedication to “environmental cleanliness” ahead of the Christmas celebrations.

At a lively certification ceremony, the Foundation Executive Director, Jeff Dekegai Juaquellie, praised residents and community leaders for their active participation,

Mr. Juaquellie highlighted that the campaign is one of critical efforts to promote a healthier, more sustainable city.

“The success of this clean-up is a testament to the power of collaboration. Our aim is to ensure that Gbarnga remains clean, not just for the festive season, but all year round, supporting the ongoing efforts of the Gbarnga City Corporation (GCC).”

Awards were presented to Chief Compound, Gbarnsuah, and Melekie communities, for their ‘outstanding contributions’ during the campaign.

Melekie Community emerged as the ‘best-performing community.’

The residents received a cash prize of L$5,000, and a certificate of appreciation for their exemplary efforts.

The Bong Shines Clean-up Campaign, launched in partnership with the GCC, has been widely lauded by residents, and local leaders, who described it as a ‘timely and impactful initiative.’

Many other residents said the initiative served as an eye-opener, motivating people to take personal responsibility for their neighborhoods, and encourage long-term habits that sustain environmental cleanliness.

Mr. Juaquellie underscored that the cleanup drive is an ongoing effort.
