Gbanyan Boosts Education In Bong

By Samuel Flomo, Jr.

Several students at Bong County University (BCU) have praised Moses Gbanyan, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Extension and Rural Development.

Gbanyan is praised his “meaningful support toward their education.”

Some of the beneficiaries, many of whom are from Kpaai District, told the In Profile Daily newspaper that Mr. Gbanyan’s assistance has given them the opportunity to pursue higher education at BCU.

Some of them said, although the university provides free tuition, students are still required to pay a registration fee of US$75 each semester; an amount, many families struggle to afford.

They said, in addition to registration fees, students also face financial difficulties relating to accommodation, feeding, transportation and other personal expenses while attending school.

The beneficiaries described Mr. Gbanyan’s intervention as life-changing.

They noted that many of them would not have been able to enroll at the university without his support.

The students also defended the Gbanyan against criticisms from some residents, who claimed that he has not contributed significantly to the county despite serving in a strategic government position.

However, information gathered by this newspaper indicates that Mr. Gbanyan has influenced the employment of several sons and daughters of the county at the Ministry of Agriculture as extension officers.

Reports further suggest that Gbanyan is currently sponsoring approximately US$75 students at BCU as part of efforts to support education and youth empowerment.
