Former Grand Gedeh Supt. Asked To Account For Funds

Former Grand Gedeh Superintendent Peter Solo

A prominent citizen of Grand Gedeh County wants former Superintendent Peter Solo to account for funds intended to construct the Grand Gedeh Community College, maintenance of road and others. A complaint from a civil society group referencing I.G. Danex Liberia LTD., an engineering company operating in Liberia and headed by  Godfery I. Daniel, alleged that the former superintendent of Grand Gedeh County misappropriated and diverted project funds for the construction of the Grand Gedeh County Community College in Zwedru. Even though the Government of Liberia(GoL) made full payment for the completion of the college project, the job was not completed and former superintend Solo did not pay the balance due, thereby causing the project to be incomplete. The CSO group calling itself Citizen for Better Liberia wants the former superintendent to account for the funds and equipment he allegedly managed during his time in  service.  The group described former Superintendent  Solo as a dishonest man, averring that his stewardship was marred by rampant corruption and that he did not also account  for monies allocated for different initiatives. The group said, “Solo days as superintendent did not benefit the county, instead his family, friends, and individuals who played  to his games to divert county funds to enrich themselves.’’ The group added that whilst serving as superintendent, Mr. Solo embezzled the amount of US$ 235, 000 and criminally sold three pieces of the county equipment that were intended for agriculture purposes and road maintenance.  The equipment was donated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).  The donated equipment was documented and this accusation of Peter Solo’s participation in the theft of this equipment can easily be verified. The group called on all Grand Gedians to rally support in the fight against corruption and to make the former superintendent give account for what he took, which was meant to benefit the county during his time of service.  In a press release issued on February 17, 2025, the group Chairman, Samuel Debee, asserted that former Superintendent Solo allegedly masterminded the arrest and subsequent detention of 19 Grand Gedians to intimidate them as they challenged his authority to sell the equipment that belonged to their county. Needless to say, the Executive was briefed and Mr. Solo was quietly relieved of his duties as superintendent of Grand Gedeh County.  Mr. Debee further asserted that the Grand Gedeh Caucus also accused Mr.  Solo of having a list that contained the names of some Grand Gedians to be arrested at the time.  He then called  on the county authority for the arrest and questioning of Mr. Solo for his involvement in all these wrongful doings against the county and its people.  “Peter Solo has no moral character to serve anywhere in government. He was only there to serve himself and not his people. His service in government brought disgrace and complete chaos to the country,” Mr. Debbe claimed.  Meanwhile, there has been no official response from former Superintendent Solo regarding these allegations, but he had in the past rejected them and challenged his accusers to take him to court if they have the evidence that he committed these acts.
