PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
This is to inform the public that any sale or purchase of land in the boundary of the Warkolor Forest, Lake Piso Multiple Sustainable Use Reserve, Grand Cape Mount County, is prohibited.
The Lake Piso Multiple Sustainable Use Reserve was established by the Government of Liberia with the consent of the surrounding communities. It has gained national and international interest due to its diverse ecosystem leading to its designation as ‘a Wetland of international importance’ under the Ramsar Convention.
To maintain and protect its biodiversity, a demarcation of the core zone of the Warkolor Forest was done and an ecotourism business was created that will provide employment and financial benefits to the communities. These were all done with the consent of the surrounding communities and County Authorities.
The public must understand that clearing this Protected Area will lead to biodiversity lost, harsh weather conditions, and tourist will no longer be interested in visiting the area.
For these reasons, no one should purchase or sell land in the boundary Warkolor Forest or areas that are in the proximity of the forest.
However, anyone purporting to have overlapping land claims in Warkolor Forest area should present their claims to the FDA or the LLA for redress.
Signed:
The Management of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA)
