Foreign Businesses Threatened In Nimba

Ganta City, the commercial hub of Nimba County, has reportedly being declared a “No-Go Zone” for foreign-owned businesses.

The decision mainly targeted Indian traders and, those who have been branded as “cheap and price spoilers.”

‎The situation erupted as Liberian-owned businesses continue to face mounting economic challenges.

With that in mind, business leaders in Ganta issued a strong warning to foreign nationals, particularly Indian traders, against retail selling.

They caution that violators will “face stiff” resistance from marketers.

‎The Ganta Business Association says foreign involvement in the retail sector, has rapidly increased; dropped up shop rental fees to unaffordable levels, thereby placing weighty challenges on local entrepreneurs.

‎“We cannot become strangers in our own country. We will resist any foreigner engaged in retail business,” the group declared.

‎The Association has meanwhile, called on government to strictly enforce existing trade regulations.

It also warned that if the situation is not addressed, it may take decisive actions to include the closure of businesses against those that will violate.
