A 46-year-old Nepali national and employee of ArcelorMittal Liberia, identified as Ruggas Navin, is in police custody in Ganta, Nimba County.
Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a less developed landlocked country in South Asia.
Navin has meanwhile, been detained on allegation of rape involving a 15-year-old girl.
He was also caught in possession of an illicit drugs, locally known as marijuana.
Police say the suspect is currently detained at the Ganta Police Station, while investigations continue.
At the end of the investigation, the accused will be forwarded to court. Authorities have assured the public that the case will be prosecuted in line with the Liberian law.
According to the Liberia National Police Women and Children Protection Section in Ganta, the incident reportedly took place at a hotel (not named) in Ganta, while the victim was visiting the facility.
However, in a twist, the victim denied being raped. She told reporter that the suspect she and the accused have been “loving, but my parents were against such idea.”
She explained how the two of them first met when she was selling in the market, where the suspect obtained her phone number, and later provided money and food for her, thus leading to multiple encounters. She further alleged that on February 26, the suspect invited her out at night, when they had sexual intercourse.
She added that she fell in love with Navin (accused), and the two had maintained a continued relationship since then.
The victim also told reporter that she has two sexes from two different partners prior to meeting Navin.
Authorities say the matter was later reported to family members, thereby prompting law enforcement officers to arrest the accused.
Police in Ganta say investigation remains active, “because the victim is a minor, below the law consent age of 18 or above.”
In another development, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, (LDEA) confirmed Navin’s being caught with marijuana at the time of his arrest.
The Agency Nimba County detachment has launched an investigation to determine the quantity and street value of the illegal substance.
