The House of Representatives (HoR) Judiciary Committee and its legal team, are expected to escort at least seven lawmakers identified as “persons of interest” in the ongoing arson investigation into the Capitol Building fire incident.
A release issued by the House Press Bureau on Thursday, June 5, 2025, states that the Liberia National Police (LNP) formally requested the meeting, scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. at LNP headquarters.
The LNP’s communication to the HoR quotes Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman, as emphasizing that the meeting is expected to mark the final phase of the investigation.
Among the lawmakers involved a as ‘persons of interest’ are J. Fonati Koffa, Frank Saah Foko, Abu B. Kamara, Dixon W. Seboe, Priscilla A. Cooper, J. Marvin Cole, and Jacob C. Debee. They’re lawmakers from then ‘minority bloc.’
Police questioned Koffa in the aftermath of the fire gutted the legislature in the early hour of Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
The flames destroyed the entire joint chambers of the legislature, but no-one was in the building at the time.
In the wake of the investigation, police invited four individuals, including then Speaker Koffa and Rep. Foko, for questioning.
The fire occurred a day after plans to remove Koffa from his speaker role that sparked a tense protest.
Foko allegedly uploaded a video onto his Facebook in which he said: “If they want us to burn the chambers, we will burn it.”
On Thursday, June 5, the House Press Bureau confirmed that the Judiciary Committee and legal experts will be present to ensure due process and provide necessary legal guidance throughout the proceedings.
The HoR remains confident that the matter will be handled professionally, with further developments expected following Friday’s meeting.
