Representative RugieYartu Barry of District #1 Montserrado County has awarded scholarships to students that dux various classes at the Fofee Town Public School in Louisiana Township.

The school’s principal Martha K. Washington said she was overwhelmed and welcomed the gesture that came as a surprise when the representative visited and delivered the package upon her visit to the campus.

Even though the scheme was not publicized for media coverage but however the In Profile Daily newspaper managed to gather content about Rep. Barry’s tour after her departure.

The Principal of the school said the beneficiaries of the scholarship are duxes of various classes beginning from the early childhood to elementary level that performed the extra-mile during the past academic year.

Madam Washington said the tuitions of eight students were paid for because of their high performances to serve as a means of encouraging other students to boost their studies at school.

She was excited and lauded Rep. Barry for undertaking the initiative in favor of deserving students at the institution and the effort that will motivate others to get on par with their schoolmates.

The Principal commended the representative for the oversight and added that “reaching out to students most of whom are underprivileged is a worthy endeavor and encouraged her to extend beyond school.”

Furthermore, she made an appeal to other officials of Montserrado County and the government at large to emulate the representative of District #1 and help to advance the educational system in the country.

The school building, according to her, is deteriorating on a gradual basis and needs a focus for rehabilitation.

“Parents don’t even want to send their children to school because they feel that this is a rural area but I encourage all parents to send their children to school because Liberia will not remain like this.”

She acknowledged the poor attendance of students as a challenge that must take a holistic approach to address for the future of the children.
