Victor W. Kpaiseh, Forestry Development Authority (FDA) Deputy Managing Director for Administration and Finance, has assured the public of government’s commitment to combat climate change and preserve the country’s rich biodiversity.
Kpaiseh underscored the importance of sustainable forest management.
He expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his vision and initiatives to restore country’s natural resources, particularly referencing the significance of the Sapo National Park. “This year has been pivotal for our climate change mitigation efforts,” he remarked, highlighting FDA’s dedication to implement the President directives for environmental sustainability.
One of the key initiatives discussed was government’s plan to construct over 600 housing units in six counties.
To this, Mr. Kpaiseh framed as part of a broader strategy to enhance national development, while considering environmental impacts.
“The government stands firm in its resolve to implement these plans effectively.”
On challenges the FDA faced, Mr. Kpaiseh acknowledged the ongoing issue of illegal intrusions into the forests, which pose significant threats to conservation efforts.
“To tackle this, we are taking decisive steps to strengthen our ranger forces.” Kpaiseh said, communications have been sent to the Ministry of Justice and the National Security Council to enhance security measures in forested areas.
He also highlighted the importance of carbon sequestration and sustainable resource management to ensure the longevity of Liberia’s forests.
“If we do not maintain our forests, we risk severe climatic disruptions.”
Mr. Kpaiseh announced the annual tree planting initiative, urging citizens to participate actively.
“This year, we encourage every individual to plant trees, whether in urban areas or rural communities. Together, we can make a significant impact.”
As the FDA continues to champion environmental stewardship under the current administration, Mr. Kpaiseh spoke of hope, stressing that the government is committed to leave a lasting legacy for future generations through sustainable practices and conservation efforts.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure that the President’s legacy will endure.”
