Farmers Unite To Produce More Cocoa

By Aaron B. Nemah

Farmers in River Gee County have endorsed cocoa as their top commodity under the “One County, One Commodity Initiative,” marking a major step toward boosting local agriculture.

The decision followed a high-level meeting with stakeholders, including farmers, officials and community leaders.

The exercise was led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Alexander Nuetah.

The County Agriculture Coordinator, Jasper Sheriff Tweh, told the gathering that the move aligns with Minister Nuetah’s directive to identify key crops driving economic growth.

Tweh said, the aim is to ensure River Gee selects a commodity with strong potential for sustainability and profitability.

At the end of the discussions, participants agreed that cocoa offers the best opportunity for economic transformation; improve livelihoods, incomes, and contribute to national development.

The Ministry of Agriculture will provide support to boost production.

Acting Superintendent Alexander Dennis, thanked the participants:

Dennis added: “We are hopeful that the Ministry will support our decision to expand cocoa production.”

With cocoa as its flagship commodity, River Gee aims to strengthen food security and contribute to the growth of the country’s agri-sector.
