Fake ‘Doctorate Degree Holders’ Angered NCHE

The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE), has strongly warned individuals against using the title: “doctor,” based solely on honorary doctorate degrees.

According to the Commission, the title “dr.” “should be reserved for individuals, who have earned a doctorate degree through academic study and completion of coursework, not those awarded honorary degrees.”

The Commission cited examples of individuals, who have not earned the title through formal education, including, but not limited to

  1. dr. George Weah, a football legend and former president,

Dr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President, dr. Yorgbor, and dr. Arthur Johnson, a lawyer by profession.

The Commission has meanwhile, urged the public to immediately desist from the “inappropriate use of academic titles, and to uphold the integrity of the country’s educational system.”

“Don’t call people Dr. Dr. Who didn’t go to school for it.” We observed that over the years, some of those bearing the conferred title of Dr. are mere 3rd grade dropout.

NCHE Director-General, Dr. Edward Lama Wonkeryor, recently made the disclosure in Monrovia.
