‘Fake Alarms, False Narratives’

-Youth & Sports Minister-Designate Office Rejects Misinformation About Postponed

The Office of  Minister-Designate, Cornelia W. Kruah has released a statement, correcting recent ‘false narratives’ circulating regarding the presence of young people and students at the grounds of the Senate on Friday, January 30, 2026.

The statement, issued Saturday, January 31, 2026, clarified that in anticipation of the Friday, January 30, 2026 confirmation hearing, originally scheduled for 2:00 PM, young people from across Monrovia and its environs, voluntarily gathered at the Capitol Building to show support for the first youth nominated to lead the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and their presence was an organic expression of hope, pride, and solidarity.

Minister-designate Kruah’s office said it is important to clarify that she did not sponsor, finance, or instruct any student or youth group to assemble at the Capitol Building, and that no mobilization was organized or requested by her or her team.

The statement maintained that students did not abandon or boycott school to attend the postponed hearing, noting that the hearing was scheduled for 2:00 PM,  after schools had dismissed at 1:00 PM, and therefore, any suggestion that students were taken out of school for political purposes is entirely false.

“While Minister-Designate Kruah deeply appreciates the encouragement and confidence shown by the young people, she remains committed to ensuring that students prioritize their education and does not support any action that disrupts their academic activities,” the statement emphasized.

The statement further underscored that the attempt by some to distort the Friday, January 30 event is regrettable and distracts from the real issues affecting Liberia’s youth, adding that Minister-Designate Kruah encourages all stakeholders to focus on empowering young people, strengthening educational opportunities, building an economy around the dreams, aspirations and talents, and advancing national development, rather than spreading misinformation.

“As we await the rescheduling of the confirmation process, Cornelia W. Kruah remains committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and an unwavering dedication to the advancement of Liberia’s youth,” the statement concluded.
