The Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI), in partnership with the Bong County Women Organization, has reported progress in girls’ access to education through its ongoing ‘Educate Her Project.’
The organization recently concluded a one-day County-Level Dialogue on National Policy on Girls’ Education, bringing together education stakeholders, students, women leaders, and local authorities.
They discussed achievements, challenges, and strategies for advancing girls’ education.
Funded by the Global Partnership for Education through the Education Out Loud Program, the ‘Educate Her Project’ is a five-year initiative to promote gender equity and quality education.
The project focuses on supporting the implementation of the National Policy on Girls’ Education by raising awareness and encouraging active participation from communities and key stakeholders.
The dialogue, held at the Bong County Women Center, provided a platform for participants to explore ways to strengthen collaboration, improve accountability, and create safe and inclusive learning environments that support the educational growth of girls and young women.
Mrs. Alice Garmo of the Bong County Women Organization, highlighted the positive impact the project has had since it was introduced.
Madam Garmo said, girls’ enrollment in the county school system has increased significantly as a result of sustained awareness campaigns and growing community support for equal educational opportunities. Many families in the past, she said, prioritized the education of boys over girls.
However, Madam Garmo said, such attitudes have changed as more parents and community leaders recognize the importance of educating girls and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society.
She also praised the Bong County Council for ensuring that girls make up 50 percent of the beneficiaries of the Madam Suakoko Scholarship Program.
Madam Garmo described the decision as a major milestone in promoting educational opportunities for young women and advancing gender equality.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to support policies and programs that enhance girls’ education, emphasizing that investing in girls today is critical to build stronger communities and secure a brighter future.
