It can be clearly measured that the Liberian society has turned the newest battle ground for power struggle between and amongst men and women who have raised their ambition for political power to the sky level.
Accordingly, while the next legislative and presidential elections are yet far away (2029), what appear to be pre-campaign movements are intensively going on almost across the length and breadth of the country.
With anti-reconciliation pre- campaign messages drenching the air, while threats driven remarks are being trumpeted in the loudest tone thereby bringing division amongst the generality of the citizens, one can safely calculate that national reconciliation efforts may not necessarily find the society a comfort zone.
Very sadly, while power greedy men and women are at each other throats on the political battlefield, poverty and all its associates, including difficulties, suffering, joblessness, etc, are dragging the people on the ground.
Sadly, the greed for power between and amongst power mongers, has and continues to keep the society, and its people only bent under the weight of poverty and human degradation. It’s now evidently glaring that politicians in Liberia only seek the powerhouse just to get closer to the marrow of power and enrich themselves against the social, political and economic freedom of the people.
Sadly, while baseless power struggle is the way of life as deemed fit by the so-called politicians, the entire society remains snared in the grip of ignorance, poverty and disease. Hence, it appears that the joy, and happiness, and the so-called politicians is to see poverty and all its allies enslaving the land.
Poverty is the state or condition where people and communities cannot meet a minimum standard of living, because they lack the proper resources as a result of bad governance.
Poverty is created by the lack of vision to equitably share national resources. Poverty finds comfort zone in a society where the greed for power is the adopted culture.
Against this background, we take this time to caution our politicians to focus of alleviating poverty, and bring peace and economic freedom to the land instead of creating battlefield far ahead of elections.
