We Salute Liberia and Sierra Leone

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, leaders of Liberia and Sierra Leone, Joseph Nyuma Boakia and Julius Maada Bio, officially broke ground, thereby setting the stage for the commencement of the four-lane road Bo Waterside project beginning from Duala, Monrovia to Sierra border.

The ceremony marked a major recent national event in Liberia, marking the start of a transformative infrastructure initiative in the country’s western corridor.

The project is part of a 255-kilometer Western Corridor road network stretching across Montserrado, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Lofa counties.

Construction work on the project with the total cost of approximately US$363.9 million, is expected to take about five years, followed by a maintenance phase under a public-private partnership.

This is not just a road; it is a strategic development corridor that will certainly

boost trade and regional integration between Liberia and Sierra Leone, something which is being cherished by citizens of both the countries.

The project will improve transportation and reduce travel time across western Liberia,

create jobs and stimulate local economies along the route.

Pres. Boakai described the project as a step toward modern infrastructure, economic growth, and national development, while Pres. Bio emphasized its role in regional unity and cooperation.

The Bo Waterside road groundbreaking marks the beginning of one of Liberia’s biggest road projects in recent years; designed to connect communities, boost trade, and strengthen ties with neighboring Sierra Leone.

Against the background, we join all others to salute the governments of Liberia and Sierra Leone for this project, which will serve as significant heritage for future generation.

Road is key to national growth and development; road is essential to all travelers; road is the major connection between and amongst countries as it relates to trade and commerce.

Once again, we salute both leaders for this milestone.
