Mrs. Edith Gongloe-Weh enjoys Nimba Women’s massive support
Ahead of the April 22, 2025, senatorial by-election in Nimba County, the only female candidate is enjoying the support of her colleagues in the county.
To demonstrate their support, the various women-dominated groups across the county’s 19 administrative districts have rallied behind Edith Leanue Gongloe-Weh.
The women dis so when they formally endorsing Edith’s candidacy for the upcoming Senate election.
The women, who gathered in large numbers to support Mrs. Gongloe-Weh, expressed their frustration at the lack of female representation in the senate.
They argue that the absence of many of their colleagues (women) in the country’s leadership roles has left their concerns largely unheard and unaddressed.
The endorsement comes as a response to “a leadership imbalance, with men dominating the political scene in the county.”
The women’s support for Edith is rooted in her leadership experience, educational qualifications and past achievements as the former county superintendent.
“We have seen that women are underrepresented in the senate and it is time to change that,” said Madam Kuku Yansine, a former district 7 representative candidate.
Kuku spoke shortly following the endorsement ceremony.
Madam Yansine: “We need to balance the male-dominance equation with competent female leadership. We therefore believe Edith is the right person to represent us.”
Madam Yah Tokpah, head of the Sanniquellie Women’s Group, echoed these sentiments, pointing to the lack of effective leadership and the ongoing conflicts fueled by male-dominated politics in the county.
Whether the women support Edith will be translated into the actual votes, remains anyone guess.
