As of March 1, 2026, all driver’s license and anything that has to do with vehicle registration, have been transferred to authorities at the Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI) leaving Transport Ministry (MoT) with inspection of vehicles. That all they have to do, according to the mandate.
The government, has meanwhile, announced a major administrative transition affecting the operations of the MoT.
This followed a directive from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
According to a directive signed by Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, all functions of the MoT relating to the issuance of driver’s licenses and vehicle registration will be transferred to LTMI) as of March 1, 2026.
The government stated that, with the exception of the Inspectorate Division, all operations within the MoT connected to driver’s licensing and vehicle registration, will be closed and severed as of March 1, 2026.
“This move paves the way for LTMI to assume full and unfettered responsibility for the issuance of driver’s licenses, vehicle registration, and other related services as enshrined in the Concession Agreement.”
The directive, takes immediate effect beginning effective March 1, 2026.
The decision comes as authorities await the deliberations of the Inter-Ministerial Concessions Committee (IMCC), alongside ongoing good-faith negotiations to reach mutual agreement on outstanding issues.
Government officials said, the transition is intended to ensure continuity of services, while investigations and consultations are concluded. Source: DN-News Liberia
