Liberians living in the Diaspora have petitioned the House of Representatives.
Diaspora Liberians called for the right to participate in Liberia’s future elections.
The petition was presented by Emmanuel Wettee, Chairman of the All Liberians Conference on Dual Citizenship (ALCOD), to the Speaker of the House at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
ALCOD, represents Liberians in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
During the ceremony, Mr. Wettee noted that about 500,000 Liberians reside abroad and continue to contribute significantly to Liberia’s development.
The group called for the establishment of polling centers outside the country to enable Diaspora participation in national elections.
Speaker Richard Koon, who received the petition, acknowledged the concerns raised and expressed appreciation for the continued support of Liberians in the Diaspora toward national development.
Koon assured the delegation that their petition and request for voting rights would be given due consideration through the appropriate legislative processes.
