Residents of Dartu Town and Mandingo Quarter in Margibi County now have great relief in the wake of the ongoing construction of a major bridge project within their community.
The happy residents cannot wait to begin using the bridge, specifically ahead of the rainy season.
According to some of the residents, the project is not only strategic, but also a meaningful one that upon full completion, will end their old age nightmare of smooth and safe movements mainly during the rainy season.
“Our children will now walk on this new bridge freely and safely, our market people will also commute from one end to the other faster due to the central location of this bridge,” some residents said as they celebrate the birth of the project.
With smiles beaming all over their faces, which signify great relief and appreciation for the level of work done on the project thus far, the joyous residents described the project sponsor, Sekou Kalasco Damaro, as a true and original rescue father.
“This is what we called real rescue; this project is very important to us. We are so glad to have such a son who knows and have cleverly identified the real need of us. We are overwhelmed,” an elder of the community remarked.
With nearly 20 percent of the work left before the project ends, some students and residents have already started crossing over the bridge because of its importance to them.
Mr. Damaro said he was committed to the project to help his people, specifically during the heavy rain.
“Our focus among other things is to save lives and to also, in our little way contribute meaningfully to change the lives and narratives of our people and the county,” he said
Damaro was the presidential aide to former President George Weah.
He spoke about how he feels to give back to his people, “because of the pains and challenges they have endured over the years.”
He put the cost of the project at a little over L$ 2 million.
