Justin Opa Yeazeahn, alias “Prophet Key,” admitted before the full Bench of the Supreme Court that his recent social media attacks against Chief Justice Yarmie Quiqui Gbeisay and the Associate Justices were contemptuous.
Prophetkey meanwhile, pleaded with the Court to temper justice with mercy in his favor.
“I promise you all that I will not cuss or abuse anyone again,” Prophet Key told the Justices in open court, vowing to change his conduct not only toward the Chief Justice, but also women and other public officials”.
The contempt proceedings arise from a series of facebook podcasts in which Prophet Key accused Chief Justice Gbeisay of corruption, claimed that the Chief Justice received money from litigants to complete the construction of a hotel project
He added that the entire Supreme Court Bench is corrupt, and referenced the Chief Justice’s Nimba County origin.
He also made disparaging remarks about the Chief Justice’s mother.
Prophet Key: ‘My actions were out of frustration.
I regret this and will not do it again. Not only to the chief justice Ma, but other women and other people ma.. I will not do it again. I will change my approach. I promise y’all before this Honorable Supreme Court, I will not cuss again,” vowed Prophet Key.
He said his comments were made out of frustration over concerns repeatedly brought to him by citizens, particularly relating to the Saye Town land dispute, and reported evictions of occupants.
He insisted he has no personal issue with Chief Justice Gbeisay, but acknowledged that his language went too far.
Though he referenced the notion in African culture that strong language can sometimes be used to confront perceived wrongdoing; remarking that “cuss or abuse can make witchcraft afraid,” he admitted his approach was wrong and pledged to change.
Prophet key pleaded for himself without legal representation.
He said cussing is not good, and cuss can hurt, but cuss can make witchcraft behave.
