CSNL Condemns Officer Bracewell’s Death

The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) strongly condemns the killing of police officer Mark D. Bracewell by Francis Nana, a taxi driver.

Bracewell was reportedly performing a national function.

“The manner and fashion in which officer Bracewell was killed on September 29, 2025, when driver Francis Nana reportedly ran into him around the Gabriel Tucker Bridge Check Point after the officer asked the driver to provide his driver’s license, is not only brutal, and heartless, but a callous feeling for human life.

“CSNL wants to fundamentally establish that officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP), are charged with the responsibility to protect lives, and properties, and maintain law and order. With such challenging responsibility, every citizen, including drivers, is expected to treat officers of the LNP with utmost respect and dignity. We deem it highly unpatriotic on the part of citizens, who utterly disrespect, and insult law enforcement officers.

“The behavioral pattern of some citizens to render absolute disregard, humiliate, and insult, lest to mention the killing of LNP officers, in the performance of their fiduciary duties must be condemned by all Liberians.

“Hence, CSNL commends the LNP under the leadership of the Inspector General, Gregory Coleman, for ensuring that Francis Nana, is served justice.

“This incident enhances the urgent need for Liberians to show respect for the uniform, as it is a representation of the country authority. Law and order can only be maintained when the citizens show respect and adhere to existing laws enforced by officers of the LNP. However, we call on officers of the LNP not to be deterred by the cruel action of the taxi driver, Francis Nana, which led to the death of Officer Mark Bracewell, but to keep performing their duties to maintain law and order.”
