CSA Accrues Over US$89K

Civil Service Agency (CSA) director-general, Josiah Joekai, said through the withholding of salaries from public officials, the agency has accrued US$89,000.

The affected officials were those who fragrantly failed to comply with the asset declaration regulation to declare their assets as required by law.

Joekai said the ‘recovered funds’ will be redirected to supporting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s “One Child, One Chair” initiative.

The withheld funds will also be used to underwrite the cost for the production of more than 2,000 arm chairs and desks for the students.

The chairs are being produced by local carpenters, mainly from the Monrovia Vocational Training Center, and the Booker Washington Institute in Kakata, Margibi County.

Mr. Joekai made the disclosure in Monrovia on Tuesday, May 20, at the Information Ministry weekly press conference.

He said, the initiative demonstrates the CSA’s commitment to enforcing transparency among public officials and stimulating local entrepreneurs and economy growth.

“This is both a penalty for noncompliance and also an opportunity to empower local artisans. It is expected to boost our economy growth,” Mr. Joekai added.

He however explained that the production of the chairs is expected to begin soon, but said, it will offer a direct investment into the country’s ‘skilled sectors.’

In related development, Mr. Joekai said, the government has implemented salaries top-ups for civil servants in key sectors, including health, education, agriculture and security, noting that beneficiaries are teachers, securities officers, healthcare workers and agriculture professionals.

Moreover, the CSA has also officially placed 600 out of 761 volunteer health workers on the government payroll marking a significant step in formalizing their employment in ensuring fair compensations. Source: LINA
