Authorities at the Ministry of Commerce have announced strict measures against water companies that fail to adhere to the newly established price for sachet of water.

The move is to stabilize the water market and protect consumers.

Commerce Minister Madagale Ellen Dagoseh, warned that any company found selling sachets of water above the government-mandated price of L$85, will face severe penalties, including potential shutdown.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over rising prices and the increasing financial burden on consumers.

Madam Dagoseh said, government’s commitment to ensure affordable access to essential goods, particularly in light of ongoing economic challenges remain enforced.

“We cannot allow businesses to exploit our people during difficult times,” Madam Dagoseh stated when she appeared on SKY FM flagship program on May 20, 2026, in Monrovia.

“Any water company that defies this price regulation will be dealt with accordingly. We are determined to protect our consumers from price climbers and ensure that everyone has access to safe drinking water.”

The price of sachet water has seen a increased in recent weeks to say, L$130 against the L$85 government stipulated price.

In a meeting with water producers, concerns were raised about high taxes, ranging from environmental fees to the costs associated with purchasing plastic.

The ministry’s intervention was to restore order to the market and prevent further price escalation.

Madam Dagoseh has meanwhile, urged water companies to comply with the set price, “or else, violation would result to immediate action, which could include the revocation of business licenses and legal proceedings.
