Commerce Ministry Leads Joint Business Compliance Exercise

By James Worquea

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and the Liberia Immigration Service on Friday, May 29, 2026, conducted a major business compliance inspection in Kakata, Margibi County.

The exercise resulted in the closure of more than 25 businesses found to be operating in violation of business regulations.

Commerce Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh led the exercise as part of government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, and promote a fair business environment.

Madam Dagoseh said, the affected businesses were cited for various violations, including operating with expired business certificates, engaging in unauthorized wholesale, and retail activities and also conduct business without proper registration.

The inspection intends to protect legitimate Liberian businesses, strengthen the national economy, and ensure that all commercial entities operate within the framework of laws and regulations.

The joint operation also sought to address unfair business practices that place law-abiding entrepreneurs at a disadvantage, while promoting accountability and compliance within the private sector.

The exercise underscores the commitment of the government to enforce business regulations, increase domestic revenue generation, and enhance public confidence in the economic system.

Madam Dagoseh emphasized the importance of compliance with established business laws.

She noted that all businesses are expected to meet legal requirements, and contribute positively to national development.

Similar compliance inspections will continue in other parts of the country as part of efforts to strengthen the

regulatory environment and support sustainable economic growth.
