Cllr. Barbu Praises USAID By Julius Konton

Though the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is leaving the country, it works have received praises, mainly for supporting the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court of Liberia (OWECC-L.)

The Executive Director for the office of the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia, Cllr. Jallah Barbu has termed as a “significant relief” the USAID’s donation of huge office supplies to them.

Following the presentation of the items, Cllr. Barbu told reporters how elated he was about the donation, which he described as “a clear demonstration of the confidence the public and partners have in their work.”

He said the multiple visitations from key international and local partners to the OWECC-L is an expression of the trust they have in their performance.

“This USAID donation is a magnificent gesture to us, because it speaks volumes, imagine the number of supports we would have received had it not been for the shutdown of USAID’s operations in the country,” Barbu said.

Some of the essential items USAID donated to OWEEC-L include, a 4wheel vehicle, stationeries and supplies, printer and camera.

Cllr. Barbu boasted of OWEEC-L having a ‘very strong’ maintenance department that will make the necessary judicial use of the assets.

He appreciated USAID for the donated items, but said with the evolving of their works, his office will need supports and supplies to further enhance their operations.

“This office work is reflected in an Italian newspaper acknowledging our working. The newspaper also commended us for progress we have made thus far. This is a welcoming and motivational news for us,” the learned young lawyer said.

Barbu reechoed: “With the recognition and appreciation of our work, we have been further challenged to do what is right, and to also ensure that the courts are fully implementing its mandates to the core.”

On other issues, Cllr. Barbu said with the release of Executive Order 148 by the President increasing our budget, “Gives us additional authority to fully operate.”

Dr. Barbu told our reporters that plans are already in the making by OWECC-L to engage into a robust and holistic outreach nationwide anytime soon.
