CDC Official Resigns

…Slams party leadership

In a move sending shockwaves through the political landscape of Southeastern Liberia,

A high-ranking official of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has cut ties with the party.

Felton W. Gayee cited deep-seated neglect and the CDC’s lack of respect for the people of Grand Gedeh County.

Prior to his recent resignation, Gayee served as the party deputy secretary general for Administration (Grand Gedeh Chapter).

He submitted his immediate resignation on Monday, February 23, 2026, in a mocking letter addressed to national chairman Janga Augustus Kowo.

The breaking point: “Reserve voters” no more

In his resignation, Gayee did not hold back his ill-feeling when he accused CDC leadership of treating the county as a “mere political stronghold to be used during elections rather than a partner in development.”

“Our people continue to be seen as reserved voters,” Gayee wrote, signaling a growing frustration among the grassroots base that has long been the backbone of the party.

Gayee pointed to the 2023 general elections as a “turning point.”

He criticized the party leadership for impetuously responding and misplaced anger when Grand Gedeans simply asked former President George Weah to fulfill campaign promises.

Gayee stated how he is now seeking a “new political home,” one that prioritizes the actual developmental needs of Grand Gedeh over partisan loyalty.

A rocky journey to 2029

As he exited, Gayee issued a stark warning to his former party, wishing the CDC good luck on what he predicts will be a rocky journey toward the 2029 elections.

Grand Gedeh has traditionally been a fortress for the CDC. Gayee’s departure raises urgent questions for the party’s future in the Southeast.
