A devastating fire has ravaged the warehouse and rental home of businessman, John Nyemah,

The incident, which destroyed goods worth millions of Liberian dollars, occurred in Grand Kru County.

It also left the victim struggling to cope with the loss.

No deaths were reported, though a mother and her baby were rescued during the blaze.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when flames erupted late in the night, engulfing Nyemah’s gasoline warehouse.

It spread rapidly through the building.

Nyemah, who recounted the moment, recalled how he had just retired after a long day of sales when he was awakened by frantic screams.

“I heard a woman, Lucy Brown, shouting ‘fire! fire!!” Nyemah said, still visibly shaken. I rushed to the back of the house, and saw my gasoline warehouse engulfed in flames. I was in total confusion, not knowing what to do.”

He spoke of how he recently received a fresh shipment shortly before the incident.

He estimated 20 drums, valued at $850 each, but were lost, amounting to L$3.6 million.

Nyemah said he had been renting the building, and had raised concerns with the landlord about unsafe activities inside the house.

He said a female tenant routinely cooked in the building, prompting him to warn the owner about the potential dangers.

“I told the landlord about the lady lighting fires in the house, and I asked her to stop. But I don’t know if her fire caused the disaster.”

Now left with nothing, Nyemah said the loss has crushed years of hard work and investment.

“My everything is gone,” he added, struggling to hold back tears.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire, but an investigation is said to be underway.

Meanwhile, community members have expressed sympathy as Nyemah begins the difficult process of rebuilding his life.
