Boakai’s Japan Trip Rumors Denied

Authorities at the Ministry of Information, has reaffirmed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s official visit to Japan remains on schedule, dismissing speculation that the trip had been altered due to public pressure or external influences.

Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Daniel O. Sando, made the clarification on Thursday, August 21, 2025, during the ministry regular press briefing in Monrovia.

Sando told the news brief that the President visit, which runs from August 16–23, has not been changed.

He urged journalists to verify facts before publishing or reporting stories.

“The President travel plans remain the same, there has been no change and no pressure whatsoever,” Sando denied.

“We encourage members of the media to fact-check and ensure accuracy before putting information in the public space.”

He also dismissed claims that Pres. Boakai was under “political or public pressure,” describing such narratives as “deliberate misinformation spread by critics of the administration.”

“At this moment, Pres Boakai is not under any public pressure,” he repeatedly said.

“The government remains committed to serving the people, and so, we will not be swayed by baseless propaganda.”

Sando then assured Liberians of the President safety, and secure return, stressing that all necessary measures are in place.

“The President will return safely, and we urge all citizens to remain calm and confident in the government ability to protect its leaders,” he said.

Sando also reminded the public that the President trip is part of his official foreign engagements, and that upon his return, Mr. Boakai will lead the nation in observing National Flag Day on Monday, August 25, 2025.

The Flag Day ceremony will be held at the Centennial Pavilion on Ashmun Street, Monrovia, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, with Cllr. Jallah Barbu, Chairperson of the War and Economic Crimes Court, serving as the National Orator.
