President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has sternly warned officials at the Ministry of Commerce to perform, or else, he will dismiss them.
The President’s warning was reportedly directed at the Minister Madalene Ellen Dagoseh, whose attention “focuses more on her political future in Grand Bassa County, than her official function.”
Boakai said, government will not tolerate ‘subpar performance’ from institutions tasked with regulating the business sector.
At a cabinet meeting, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Pres. Boakai underscored the importance of the Ministry’s responsibilities, particularly in addressing the concerns of business owners.
He expressed frustration over ongoing complaints from the business community, highlighting the Ministry’s critical role in protecting local production and bolstering the economy.
“When Christmas comes, I hear people saying: we have chicken here for you. We don’t want chicken; we can make our own food,” Pres. Boakai remarked, underscoring the need to promote local production rather than relying heavily on imports.
He further cautioned that government officials, who failed to fulfill their duties could face replacement.
He added: “If you don’t understand the importance of that Ministry, it is time to recognize that. Business people are expressing their dissatisfaction with the Ministry. If we see that you’re not taking action, we will remove you.”
The President’s warning was directed at Madam Dagoseh, who reports emerged, has the intention to contest the Grand Bassa County senatorial post in 2029.
These remarks come as the government faces increasing pressure from entrepreneurs and traders, who have demanded stronger regulation, enhanced support for local businesses, and policies that foster domestic production.
