President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has hard-pressed for stronger economic partnership at U.S. Independence Celebration.
On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the President joined U.S. Ambassador Mark C. Toner, and members of the diplomatic community to commemorate the 249th Independence Day of the United States of America. The ceremony was held at the James E. Pierre Banquet Hall on Benson Street in Monrovia. Pres Boakai extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia to the Government and people of the United States.
He described the day as a “celebration of freedom, democracy, and opportunity, values that continue to inspire nations around the world.”
Pres. Boakai underscored the unique and enduring relationship between Liberia and the United States, highlighting a shared history that spans over two centuries.
He reflected on the founding of Liberia by freed African-Americans and the long-standing bonds of political, cultural, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
“The United States has remained a steadfast ally, supporting Liberia in its democratic journey, strengthening institutions, and standing with us during moments of national challenge,” Pres. Boakai stated to a round of applause.
While emphasizing the country’s new foreign policy direction, the President noted that economic diplomacy is now central to the country’s international agenda.
He said, diplomacy must not only shape political alliances, but also unlock trade, investment, and economic development for the Liberian people.
Pres. Boakai commended the United States’ recent shift toward commercial diplomacy and noted the alignment between this “new U.S. foreign policy thrust and Liberia’s own goals.”
He spoke of Liberia’s openness to strategic partnerships in areas such as trade, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship.
“We aim to promote the country as a viable and attractive destination for investment, innovation, and sustainable development,” he said, calling for increased collaboration between American and Liberian businesses and institutions.
Pres. Boakai concluded with a call to action for both nations to seize the moment and deepen their cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
“Let us work together to create a future of mutual prosperity, where both our peoples can thrive,” he urged.
Boakai expressed gratitude for the invitation to celebrate and reaffirmed his country’s enduring friendship with the United States, extending best wishes for continued peace, prosperity, and unity for the American people.
