Boakai Establishes Taskforce

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has established a high-level Presidential Taskforce to lead a coordinated and cross-sectorial response to the Government of the United States of issuing a travel ban on the country.

According to a release, the constitution of the Presidential Taskforce is in response to wide-ranging concerns raised by the US-Government on issue, which, if left unaddressed, could lead to the imposition of a travel ban.

In recognition of the matters identified span multiple government ministries and agencies, the President will himself Chair the Taskforce, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs designated as co-Chair. The Taskforce, the release said, will include the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Health and State for Presidential Affairs.

Other members are the Liberia National Police, Office of the National Security Advisor and the National Security Agency (NSA).

The inaugural meeting of the Taskforce was convened on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Executive Mansion and chaired by the President.

Present at the meeting were the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice and State without Portfolio for Special Services, the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, and the National Security Advisor.

Following its initial deliberations, the Task Force has developed a joint multi-sectorial work plan to address the concerns “comprehensively and with urgency.”

Implementation of the work plan will be carried out in close collaboration with the U.S. Government, and will be subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation to ensure accountability and results.

Pres. Boakai highlighted his administration’s commitment to upholding good governance, the rule of law, and the country’s longstanding partnership with the U.S.
