Unity Party (UP) Legislative Caucus at the House of Representatives has categorically rejected and strongly condemned a recent statement made by Representative Musa Hassan Bility.
Bility’s statement criticized the decision of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) to reduce terminal storage fees for petroleum products from US$35 cents to US$0.2 cents.
The UP Caucus described Bility’s comments as “reckless and deceptive,” which clearly exposes his narrow and selfish agenda at the expense of the Liberian people.
In a statement under the signature of UP Caucus Chairman, Representative Robert Womba, said it is “shameful that at a time when the government, through the LPRC is taking bold and deliberate steps to ease the economic burden on ordinary Liberians, people Bility, a sitting lawmaker, would openly opposed such a progressive policy.
Womba represents Bong County Electoral District #4, while Bility represents Nimba County Electoral District #7.
Womba further informed Bility of LPRC’s action to cut storage fees, adding: “It was designed to reduce costs in the petroleum sector, stabilize the market, and ensure that businesses and consumers benefit from fairer pricing.”
His statement noted that government’s action through the LPRC is a people centered decision that aligns with the UP government’s ARREST Agenda, which Rep. Bility should have been championing if his concern were truly about the Liberian people, instead of his personal profit margin.
Womba said Bility’s desperate attempt to condemn this move only underscores his vested interest in protecting his business and own gains, while ignoring the harsh realities facing the struggling citizens.
Rep. Womba also reminded Rep. Bility, who himself is a tank owner at the LPRC, that the entity does not serve an individual’s interest, but the interest of the Liberian people.
“As such, Bility attempt to politicize and undermine a decision taken in good faith and in the national interest is nothing more than a betrayal of the very people he was elected to represent.”
Womba also called on all Liberians to see Rep. Bility’s statement as a “selfish outburst aimed at protecting his business and personal benefits rather than advancing the collective good of the people.”
He further that the UP government under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai will remain steadfast in its mandate to implement policies that will make the Liberian people lives better, which no amount of political grandstanding or self-centered noise, will distract the government achieving.
