Bea Mountain Slaps With US$100M Suit

Bea Mountain, a mining company in western Liberia, has been sued for US$100 million in damages.

The company, according to report, is being sued over claims that it polluted the Mafa River in Grand Cape Mount County.

Lawyers say the company’s mining activities released “harmful chemicals” to include cyanide and mercury into the river.

The situation, is said to be causing illnesses, and loss of livelihood for local communities.

The Mafa River was widely used for drinking, cooking, and fishing prior to the reported pollution.

The legal team claims more than 13 people have died, and many others have been affected, while the company was yet to take action since 2022.

The lawsuit includes multiple charges, and seeks compensation, environmental cleanup, and damages for affected residents.

The company is yet to respond to this report up to press time late last night.
